Farm day devoted to comparison of pure-bred beef cattle

Events organised as part of the Farm Day within the scope of the Herbivorous Project started on 24 May. The first event was devoted to a pilot project entitled Comparison of the Quality of the Descendants of Pure-bred Beef Cattle and it took place at the farm KOLUMBI.

First part of the event took place in Kuldīga, Pilsētas laukums 4, Mārtiņš Hall where the Farm Day was unveiled by Anita Siliņa, Head of Livestock Competence Centre of the Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Centre. The owner of the farm KOLUMBI Dace Meldere told about beef cattle farming and the progress of the pilot project. Topicalities of the experiment, results, analysis, and evaluation were presented by Anita Siliņa and Professor at Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies Daina Jonkus. In the conclusion of the first part, breeding consultant and certified beef cattle evaluator Vizma Sileniece presented the quality assessment criteria for young bovine animals.

The second part of the event was organised at the farm KOLUMBI where various practical solutions were discussed, questions were asked and discussions were arranged. In addition, demonstrations of the assessment of young bovine animals were hosted by Vizma Sileniece.
